Dinner with a Waterfall View in the Poconos

The peaceful beauty of the Pocono Mountains in Northeast Pennsylvania draws visitors year-round—and it’s easy to understand why. Whether you’re hitting the slopes in winter, boating in the summer, hiking scenic trails, or simply slowing down to enjoy time with family, the Poconos offer something for everyone.

Before our move to South Carolina, we lived just about two hours south of the region, which made it a perfect destination for quick getaways. On one memorable trip, we discovered a hidden gem in the charming town of Hawley near Lake Wallenpaupack—the stunning Ledges Hotel.

A Hotel Built on History (and a Cliffside)

What makes this place so special? For starters, it’s perched right along a cliff overlooking the cascading waterfalls of Wallenpaupack Creek. The view alone is worth the visit.

But the story behind the hotel adds even more charm. Originally a glass factory in the early 1900s, the building has been beautifully transformed into a modern boutique hotel while still preserving its industrial roots. You’ll notice historic architectural elements woven throughout the property, giving it a unique character you won’t find in typical hotels.

Exploring Before Dinner

We arrived early for our anniversary dinner to explore the area—and we’re glad we did. Right next door is the Hawley Silk Mill, a restored historic building that now houses boutique shops, a cozy café, and even an art gallery.

It’s the kind of place where you can take your time—browse a little, grab a coffee, and soak in the local history. Near the entrance, there’s also a small exhibit that tells the story of the mill, adding another layer to the experience.

The Real Star: The Waterfalls

Let’s be honest—the waterfalls are the main attraction here, and they absolutely deliver.

Sitting out on the deck, listening to the rushing water while taking in the view, is nothing short of mesmerizing. The hotel features multiple outdoor spaces, including a restaurant and bar that overlook the falls, as well as upper observation decks where you can relax with a drink and enjoy the scenery from above.

Dinner with a View

Dining at Ledges Hotel is an experience in itself.

A few tips if you’re planning a visit:

  • Make reservations early—especially if you want one of the coveted tables right along the edge.
  • Plan around the weather so you can enjoy outdoor seating near the falls.
  • Expect higher-end pricing, but the atmosphere makes it worthwhile.

The menu leans toward small plates, but don’t let that fool you—each dish is packed with flavor. The service was attentive, and the overall experience felt perfect for a special occasion like an anniversary.

Worth the Stay?

We didn’t stay overnight, but it’s easy to imagine how incredible it would be to wake up to that view. The hotel offers a variety of room options at different price points, and even a nearby house rental for those looking for a more private stay.

Final Thoughts

If you’re visiting the Pocono Mountains, make time to stop by Ledges Hotel—even if it’s just for a drink or a short visit.

Between the history, the atmosphere, and those unforgettable waterfall views, it’s one of those places that turns a simple outing into a lasting memory.
